I picked up some Azalea from Leigh a little while back.
It was a lucky dip on varieties. The first flower appeared today, then the rain pretty much knocked it for six.
Managed to get a quick snap on the phone.
Which Satuki am I?

Hartos - yours is Yochiyo. Ken, I need to research yours - it was taken as a cutting from a bonsai that I wasnt sure of.

Just for my education purposes, how is it a satsuki azalea if they are flowering now? I've got the Satsuki Azalea book by Robert Callaham and it doesn't mention Yochiyo as a Satsuki.

hi guys
from what I understand of "satsuki" azalea is that it flowers in the fifth month (in japan). then you have other varieties of azalea with the different namings.
so satsuki isnt actually the plants name but used as a determination of its flowering period.

I just found that book on Amazon
3 copies new. Cheapest was $39.99 from Stone lantern, and 2 others for more than $120.
The 2 second hand were more than $112 each
I have bought the copy for myself
Thanks Leigh

I have two more flowers on different Azalea plants.
The first one is quite different from the previous examples.
azalea flower 1.jpg
Flower two looks similar to the one previously identified as Yochio however the leaf size on the two trees is very different. The flower I started this thread with comes from a tree with very very small leaves the flower below comes from a tree with a larger pointier leaf.

Right.
I thought the pink and white one was different from Kens, my flower doesnt have the stripe down it so I had thought it might be a different variety.
Interesting if the same variety has that variation of flower.
