...the blooms look alright.
I've had this bougie for a little over 5 years now, and it never fails to put on a nice display. The cultivar is strange..in that when it blooms, it drops about 90% of its foliage. At first I thought it might be a deficiancy of some sort (as the leaves turn a sickish yellow colour) but once blooming is over, and pruning is done, the foliage produced is lush and vigorous.
The Vietnamese fellow I originally got it off, was reluctant to part with it.....saying it was "special". To look at it, I thought it was fairly average. We came to an agreement and both parties were satisfied
I'm glad I bought it....even if it does have some obvious faults. It never disappoints.

my big bougy does a similar leaf drop prior to flowering however it makes for a more dominant flower to leaf ratio which i enjoy

that is a nice display thats for sure! I reckon even with the faults its good, if you ever wanted to fix them it wouldnt be that hard either, being a boug they are tough and easy to work with, some root grafting and a little time with a couple of roots in the right spot to pull the trunk out some you will be on a winner

Fantastic floral display but the pot colour kind of clashes with the flowers I would say a glazed pot would be much better.

I plan to start rectfying these faults in time. Jamie.... the root grafting will start as of next spring. I plan to make a few cuttings this growing season in view of threading next year.
Guy.... The tilting to the first major branch,......is this to create a little a little more mvement?...or to disguise the inverse taper?. The taper issue can, and possibly will be dealt with by some carving gradually over some years.
Craig.... I agree with you definately on the pot colour choice. What would you suggest? I'd love to hear some thoughts on this. The pot it's in, was the only one I had that was deep enough for it. Having no radial spread on it makes it almost impossible to wire in place. Hence the deepness of the pot (which doesn't show in the picture) it's sort of supported by an inch and a half of gravel.

could possibly air layer above the reverse taper save yourself fiddling with root grafts, kill two birds with one stone.

Hi Anthony, no matter how many pots you have in the shed there is never the right one for the job at hand. Its hard to tell from the photo the exact colour of your tree it looks to have a touch of purple in it. I reckon if you want to be safe a soft blue pot would look nice, if you want a standout yellow would be great if the tree really does have some purple in the flower.
