hi guys
I am a little embaressed about this thread but have had no luck with searching the net, it is hard to find pics on young seedlings with any real info about it all on google..
this one is even harder, A while back I put a heap of swampy seeds down (cheers james

muchly appreciated). and to no avail didnt get much movement for a good few weeks I figured this being that they were a little older (james had them stored) and then these things started popping up, not sure if its a weed or if they are swampy seedlings, i dont think they are swampies though, never seen a swampy seed germinating, I do know some of the members on here have germinated swampies as of late and Im sure it will be a quick ID (more than likely a weed

). the biggest thing that throws me is the first lot of leaves are small round ones like we normally see on any seed germination but then turn to the needle type foliage more like a swampy.
I have had redwoods come up from seed recently and they germinated with the one set of small round leaves and then into the needles type foliage.
anyways its a hard thing to describe so here is the pics.

I have labelled the pics weed as that is what my gut is telling me

Jamie. I hate to disappoint you but these are weeds, hard one to rid of. They are everywhere in my garden. Get rid of them before those seed pods mature and crack open.

hi mate
not dissapointed, more releived than anything actually!

I thought as much they were, buggers of things actually, I wasnt 100% as they were in the seedling trays that all my swampy seeds are in.
dunno bout getting rid of them, the owners of my house we are renting in at the moment decided after three months of us renting from them that they want the house back, nothing to do with us, just want to move back in, so I reckon I might go and take a few and plant them in the garden beds

I know that sounds bad but the were the ones that said we can have a 12 month less then changed it to 6 to start with (which is normal) and then stuffed us around!
thanks man

The weeds themselves are soft and easy enough to pull out but they are strong by numbers. Once those needle-like seed pods mature and crack, the tiny browny seeds with scatter everywhere and the chain reaction will begin. There live cycle is relatively short but that will also mean the seedlings with mature quicker and crop quicker too.
Bugger the house owner. I hate it too when people who don't keep their words. Maybe they was renting somewhere else and got kicked out too?
Anyway, I guess these are common enough to maybe seed around the garden already.
By the way, they don't look like swampy seedlings at all and you can have peace of mind ripping them out.
Cheers,
DK

We've got thousands of those things here Jamie. The more you pull out - the more you get!!! The seed pods don't just crack open - they explode sending the seeds far and wide. If you see any pods on them, don't just try and pull them off because they will explode as soon as you touch them. Use a finger and thumb and grip each one tightly, pull it off then dispose of it somewhere - but don't let go of it anywhere near your pots.

I know them as Flick Weed; because they flick the seed all over the place.
