I’m guesing that it’s some type of Kurume azalea. Leaves and flowers look like it 

This looks like one of the Kurumes and there are so many varieties that you would have to be a specialist to name them.

Please note everyone that if you spray with Bayleton during budding out time and then at regular ( say 10 day ) intervals during flowering time, your blossoms will not suffer from water damage or petal blight so much. That is how the Satsuki at the festivals in Japan look so good and hold their flowers for a long time.

G'day Arthur, where did you get your Bayleton? My local bunnings don't seem to have it, nor does the little hardware store. The closest thing I could find is Bayer garden fungicide but I don't think its the same, it says its for blackspot and mildew. Does it come as a spray, in a can, or a packet of powder? Is it commonly available?

Yes, You need Bayer's Bayleton.

Sorry I haven't responded before but my PC has had problems.

Bayleton is a specific fungicide for petal blight in the Rhododendron family.
I got mine at Bunnings. Just keep hunting. Their stores buy independantly of each other to a fair degree.
I'll keep my eyes open for some for you. If you get some in the mean time, no worries as it never goes ammiss to have stocks.

Thanks for all the info Arthur. I sat through one of your WA Bonsai Soc meeting presentations without a pen or paper, it is great you have joined us here so I will now build a full written copy of all your valuable information.
While I only have a small number of flowers left on my Azaleas now, I do have a full bottle of Bayer's Bayleton for next year

its azalea with bases like this that I like, I guess from my experience with azalea and seeing them at the big B all the time with multiple trunks have always turned me off. did you buy it with this base forming? or have you developed it?

would love to know what is done to develop a base like this, I reckon I have a fair idea, getting a radial root spread, low sacrifices etc. and it will eventually fuse/develop.
