I just visited the WA Bonsai Soc website and got a surprise. The second last tree (Melaleuca) is a Claret Top which was collected by Hoog from a council garden some years ago. Will post before and after pics tomorrow. This is the photo on the WA site

Yes, he is using quite a few images that he does not own.

That guy must be dreaming. The tree is long dead.
I showed what the tree looked like when it came to us and Hoog was pretty proud of it. It took us weeks to convince him that we could improve it. He finally gave in and Rod and I got stuck into it one afternoon. I don't have a photo of it immediately after surgery, etc but here is the next pic I took at one of the Brisbane shows.not much later. It was in a mica pot

That is a shame as it was a nice tree you did a very nice job. What the bastard does is look at images posted then takes them to promote his seed selling.

He has an image of John Oldland's Grass tree and is selling seed grass tree's grow at the rate of 2cm per year, so you would have to start young to get one. to show-able height like Mrs Pup's or John's.

It seems that there is a lot of that sort of plagiarism going on. In fact I saw some guy's avatar on this site (I think) some time ago and it was a photo of my favourite California Juniper by Ern Kuo. I wonder if he got Ernie's permission to use it? I had that tree in my gallery in my now expired website but I first asked Ernie's permission.

I also noted that, it was the one he donated to the President to give to the Japanese prime minister.

I didn't know that. I haven't been in contact with Ernie for years. It would have been better if he had donated it to me

I was his assistant when he was here in 2001 so we spent a bit of time together. He has now stopped Bonsai he just maintains a few. A big loss to the Bonsai fraternity,
He was at a loss as to the politics.

I almost got over to the west in 2001 - can't remember why I didn't get there. Ern and I were going to have a few beers. Sure is a loss of great talent

BTW - that Claret Top was about 1m high
