azalea fusing

HI,

I've been considering trying to fuse the whips of an azalea I have together. Its the typical B***nings special that my missus liked the flowers on, now that the novelty have worn off for her I would like to go to work on making something of this plant.

The question I have is will this shrub fuse into a trunk if I pull the whips up into a trunk and apply grafting tape?

Or will the trunk rot under the tape?

Thanks in advance.

hi mate :D

yepo they should fuse no problem, the big bases you see on more advanced azalea are from roots and branches that fuse together ;)

Azalea will fuse quite easily and is a great way of getting trunk girth
