His blog is also great. Lots of great information that he has posted through articles etc. He posts regular stylings and progress shots. Big fan of his "naturalistic" styling.

Second that, his naturalistic styling is a progression in styling bonsai me thinks. Walter Pall has some incredible trees and is very knowledgable. Too many times people get caught up trying to style trees in a japanese style or chinese style when the tree isn't even native to those areas. I know I'm guilty of it on occasion. The tree will always let you know how it should be designed. I know I've read it before and its not a new notion but we have our own unique trees here in Oz and we should style accordingly. Australian style, has a nice ring to it don't you think?
We need to study what nature has done to the trees in their natural habitat and design more from that.

Its called Shizengi ( natural style ) been around longer than Walter just not noticed.

Absoutley totally agree with you Andrew. We could even make up an AUSTRALIA set of Bonsai Rules, for Australia, after all the Japanese took Bonsai from the Chinese in the first place, and started their own Styles and Rules, why can't we. ??

If you have a look at some of the progressions of Walter's trees over the years, I personally think that they are becoming more and more like some of the older Kokufu trees...

I'll see if I can find a link to one of the trees that I am talking about.

Absolutely spot on Pup and Walter has always maintained that the 'Naturalistic' effect is nothing new. It annoys him that some people think he invented it and says that it has been around for a long time.

Yes it seems we have some newer members here that were not around, when the old chesnut of styling,
for specific areas of the world like the USA and Europe why not Australian. It cause alot of angst then and some people left the site over it.
So let us hope it will not happen again, EH.

I posted these in the other thread on collecting and there where completely ignored as they disagreed with some members opinions of "just rip 'em out and hope for the best".

I fail to understand why we need to have an Australian style, our art form is international, trees are styled in much the same way all over the world which is a great thing. Bonsai transcends international borders as do most other art forms this is part of their beauty, I am completely in favor of using our native plants for bonsai I think we must, but why do we need to nationalize some thing which is truly international. If you look at the international forums people from every corner of the globe are growing bonsai and they are all on the same page to me that is a truly wonderful thing.

I think its that thing we hate about Americans most, but blindly do it ourselves.... Its called "patriotism".
I agree, I seem to believe that bonsai is a representation of nature and bonsai is to be styled as a tree not the other way around. I see no need for our own style at all, as you see no "Italian", "German" "English" ect styles.
