Watering during Restrictions

Hi Friends

My collection has grown in number over the last year to some hundred (prob more) far to many to hand water each day (as i was told you may do any day during water restrictions)

Just a broad question but - how do people go about watering their trees during 'Water Restriction' times??

Just thinking ahead for the summer months

Thanks

Hi Tex
Sounds like you would have to have a tank if you are thinking of an irrigation system. It is good though to water with a hose and look at your trees and see what they are doing. You should be careful to still check the trees if you do have a sprinkler system and timers and not assume they have been watered.

Hi Tex....check with your Bonsai Club,as our clubs have access to allowances outside the general water restriction requirements....It probably would vary from state to state though.... :) ....Dog.

Thanks Tony

Sorry to confuse, I'd still be watering by hand (using hose) and checking every day.

I guess I was wondering what people did during times when watering is only permitted twice a week?

As Bonzaidog said in WA if you ring then water Corporation and explain that you are growing bonsai you can get an 'excemption for the cultivation of exotic plants' that allows you 10mins per day automatic reticulation for the bonsai only (not your lawn). Your state may be different but its worth an enquiry

Above the water restrictions for Sydney. Since irrigation is permitted, you could install an automatic drip system to water your bonsai, if watering with a hand held hose is too much trouble.

We have tanks, the water in the tanks seems to do the trees more good then tap water. Less chemicals??

Think most places have restrictions lifted at the moment, I know vics have come off a long way!

Hi Tex,
When you look into Australia's water usage, Watering restrictions are a total farce to make us feel like we are doing something for the environment. The real damage is done by the farm irrigators. Just be creative to avoid the fines :)

Fill drums at the times you are allowed water, then use that for the other times?? Put a tank water in use sign up but don't get a tank???

Are those the sort of things you mean Brett? Lol

I'm lucky that I have 10000 litres of tank water just for the garden!

I'm lucky enough to have 17meg allocation-use only four or five meg for my needs--but during restrictions I can still only water my personal stuff the same as anyone else---(with a little rule bending  )--but that's cool.
