Hi all,
I found this in my garden the other day. It had a very large broom style head branch which was completely dead, but at the roots was this root system which still showed signs of life. I have removed the old branch and spread the roots over the old trunk and it is going strong now. New buds coming through, there is only one problem. I have no idea what sort of plant it is. I am new to Bonsai and species identification is definitely not my strong point. Can anyone help..

Looks like azalea to me.

It could also be a Cuphea. Hard to tell without flowers.

Thanks for input, i will keep an eye on it and see if i can tell what it is when flowers come out. Again, thanks for ideas
