Just got pines in the temperate climate by HOY LEONG KWONG (bonsai south) it is fantastic. Heaps of progression and example shot, timing and what to do to get backbudding, short internodes and needles on japanese black pine. it is easy to understand. lots of diagrams and pictures about where and when to cut not just text. highly recommended.

I had a flick through the book while at Bonsai South last week and it looks to be very well written and concise with lots of pictures.
I didn't get a copy as I'm not really into pines but now I wish I did. Might have to head back to Leong's and grab a copy.

Where is the tropical climate version? They do grow here too

Leong is based in Sydney, this book is for Australian conditions and is the culmination of his experiences growing pines over the past 30 years.

All the information in Leong's book will work for you in the tropics as well Glenda. I don't have a pine - but I do have the book! Now I might start looking for a tree.

I know this is an old post but could this book be useful for any pine, type that could be collected etc.

This book should be good for any two or three needle pines.
