I put up a pic of this fig a while back and the most consistent comment was that it needed a new pot so I have taken your good advice and moved it into this pot, what do you guys think ?. Its an older Japanese pot which would have come into the country in the 70s.

Tis a lovely fig with great taper and movement. The pot is a better fit too.
Have you considered lowering and rounding the apex or are you happy with how it is now?

Is this one that you grew from seed or am I mistaken?

Steven this one I grew from cutting, an old friend of mine gave me the cuttings when I first started so its getting alarmingly close to 30 years now although many of those years I had no idea what I was doing. I will wire the top out very soon a couple of years ago I cut it down lower so the top needs a bit more training

I am really not a ficus fan, but some of the trees getting posted lately (this one and some of grant's/max's) are really turning me to them.

Maybe it is the quality of styling/maintanence rather than the tree itself that I am admiring

Hi Scott, Ficus are a great genus to work with, I only have a couple of mature trees and about 3 in training ( I want a cascade one). They can be a bit disappointing when young but are well worth the wait.
I put my tree in its new pot up on another forum and no one liked the pot. They all thought the sharp angles clashed with the trees soft curves and agreed an oval glazed pot would suit it better.

The new pot definitely brings out the impressive trunk of this tree. It looks much better.

How long does it take to take all the leaves off? Did you do it in a one go, or breaks in between?

Hi Daiviet, this is only a relatively small tree so just a couple of hours, I recently did my liquidambar group and that took all day, so many leaves to cut off. Still its just one of those processes which happen at this time of year
