Hello All, we have recently acquired a bonsai bougie and are not sure where to put it! Bought it in flower from a reputable dealer; their instruction sheet says to keep bonsai plants in the shade but having recently removed some rampant ones from our garden we know they are sunlovers so are confused re. what would be best for it?! Any advice would be much appreciated... thanks. Jan

Bouganvilleas need full sun, but if it hasn't been in full sun move it there gradually. If it has been in shade, move to part shade, then to sun.

Any plant that grows in the ground is totally different than a Bonsai. In a Bonsai pot they have restrictions placed on them as to the amount of soil root growth and are totally reliant on you for water and feed.
As you are aware we have hot dry summers, different from humid wet seasons. The best advice I would give is morning sun and afternoon shade.

And remember you climatic conditions. In Perth Metro area we can have many differing ones. Where I live the temperature today is at the moment 1-50 pm, 36 and the humidity is 40 percent which is unusual. So if you need more help PM pup

Hope this helps :) Pup

I have Sevearl Bougies and they are all in full Sun mostly

when they are in shade they tend to get a bit too "leggy"

Hi Jan make sure you keep the water up to it. When they are in the ground they don't need much water but in a pot they need to be watered every day in summer. Here in Brisbane I water several times a day on a really hot day and as long as the mix you have them in is free draining it will do no harm. You need a free draining mix as they don't like getting their feet wet constantly otherwise they can suffer from rot.

Thank you to all who replied to our query. We've decided to try a sheltered spot with some morning sun (after our 40 deg. weather has passed!)
