What Happened To My Cotoneaster

Hi All,
Sorry I have been off the grid for a bit, I am now back at work and I don't have much time for jumping on the site. Four months off work was really really good with full pay, but now the dream has been smashed by coming back to this hole in the middle of nowhere. Anyways, you dont want to hear the Wo Me story...lol..
I left beautiful Cairns on the 2 January to drive back to Middlemount (3 hrs west of Mackay) and I decided to bring a couple of stock with me. On the trip I did not use aircon in the car, and the weather was pretty good, however, when I got to Middlemount and placed my little friends on their new bench, the cotoneaster just died. It is now in the same sort of sunlight exposure as it was in Cairns, the only difference is the humidity, even that is fairly similar. All leaves are now gone, and there is no sign of it recovering after 3 weeks. Anyone got any suggestions for me. Please help.
On a lighter note, the JBP and Chinese Elm has rocketed off with growth, might keep them down here, they grow better. Thanks Glenda for your advice on these aswell.
Cheers
