I did the exact same thing to a couple of mine about 2 weeks ago.
They were before and are still now almost identical to yours.
They are already starting to bud back all over the place.
Did you pot the cutting? Hope so

i potted four of the cuttings. they are slowly but surely dieing

I thought mine were doing well too but at the moment im not so sure.
I do put every little piece i cut off into a pot tho

It's a great feeling when the cuttings take!
I had more success when I covered the soil with sphagnum moss (or fine orchid mix) and put a plastic bag over the pot for the first few weeks - out of the sun of course. Not sure if it really helps but its something I recall my mum doing a lot when she "borrowed" plants. Now I have around 5 japanese maples, 3 tridents, 4 or so chinese elms and a whole stack of coprosma kirkii's. Now the problem is finding room to keep them all when they grow up!

No problem Brendan.......you growem big'n fat and when they get in the way.....sendem to me mate, i got plenty of room.
