just thought i would stick up a few photos of my recent trip to Japan and some gardens i visited there.

How did you feel when you walked up the path and it came into view Nos?

Was well worth the walk from the local Backpackers that morning, it kind of just blows you away and photos can never do it justice. its sooo shiny..

i think most of Japan i went to was amazing, apart from Osaka it seemed so different. i think the best part was walking through the natural forests near Takiyama on the way to Shirakawa-go, it was Autum and the colours where just incredible. i will spend alot more than one night in that area next time.


i didnt get to see any bonsia, my planned day trip to Omiya, seen me and my wife walking around Omiya in the pouring rain looking for Bonsia places... which we didnt find
before my next trip over there i will research locations before i go

I stumbled across this site a few months ago when I first got back into bonsai:

They supply tools, pots, books, DVDs, artwork, and even organise Bonsai tours and workshops for overseas visitors. The site is in both Japanese and english.

To be honest, I have been on a few organized tours on my travels, and I really think that your first approach - getting out there yourself and having a look around, is generally the best way to truly exprerience a place. But having lived in Japan myself, and having been lost many, many times on the way to places I really wanted to see, I really think tours in japan are the exception to this rule.

When I saw Golden Temple it really drove home the story about how the man that built it did so to show off his power and impress with it.

Maybe you went to the wrong side of Omiya, did you cross the tracks?
When I went it was pouring rain and everything was closed The only nursery I did get to see was Kato's. Mr Kato himself was coming back from lunch and saw me at the gate, he asked where I was from and then said, "we are closed today but you can look." Very gracious individual.

In Omiya the Bonsai town is found it the "Omiya Kouen" train station. It's not on the JR line but a small private one which runs out of omiya station.

You went to Shirakawa-Go...Very good move...one of the most beautiful towns in the world...especially when it's under snow! Dangerous road getting there..I drove there in the snow and it was very scary.
