Your tree looks very healthy and I believe you get a lot of flowers in spring

.
In regards of being a bonsai you still need to do some styling on the tree because there are no signs of branch structure and so on.
Good work on growing a healthy tree!

Did not know you can get an Azalia that does not flower

.
I do not know much about the species so I would be careful to give you advice because I don't know how it will react. You will have to get a trunkline - look closely at the tree and see what it presents to you in terms of the styles/styling options. If you are willing to cut back the soft growth to the last leaf so we can see the trunkline and possible branches, we can maybe help a little more - but you do it on your own risk!

I also find a similar one as yours here:

Hope this help.

Hey Dean,
I to have not heard of a non flowering Azalia, any how she is a little beauty.
What I think you need to do is look at lots more pictures to give yourself an idea of the direction you want to go, its not cheating copying another style. As Leonard said, you need to pick a trunk line, just to give au an idea as the photos are not that good.
It's good practice to try yourself then when you are stuck give us a call. Nice tree.
Mick.

mick i understand the copy bit

but the part to find a trunk line is the

confusing part as a newby to bonsai i am still learning the basic wording
for bonsai saying's and trying to find sao-to-me pictures is not a easy task, and as for my picture it is a camera phone

when i am back at work
i will try to pick up a decent camera but until then i am stuck in a mud hole without a shovel

so any help will be very well accepted.
cheers guy and thanks

I was surprised to read Saotomes don't flower (not that I have any experience with them but, hey, they're azaleas).
So off to trusty Google and after reading many websites, it seems some Saotomes do and some don't. Why is an answer I didn't find.
"Blooms are rare on Saotome, which is grown for its fine foliage."

Interesting.

Dean, when we mean find a trunk line, it basically means to find the front and pick a direction you wish the trunk to follow, weather you chop the main trunk and continue the trunk using a side branch which will be the new trunk. When looking at other pictures it does not have to be the same variety as your own, just ones with similar attributes or movement (shape). The more picture you look at, the more you are, I suppose, at picking future trees or paths for potensi (potential bonsai). You should be able to find a club some where near your area, ask in another thread and you shall find.

Hi Dean , my first bit of advice, without being disrespectful would be - learn to be Patient - ie; dont bump your thread 3 times in 1 day,, if someone can help you they will reply in time
In regards to you Azalea's, as Lennard mentioned, maybe you would cut the foliage back or at least spread the foliage apart so you can take pics of the trunkline, maybe cut all the thick branches off altogether, as you dont really need them. I dont see why you couldn't make some kind of informal broom from azalea 2 if you thought about it for a while..Other than that maybe think about planting out in the ground or even a hard cut back of foliage to encourage new lower shooting on the trunks, which you could then use as new leaders/branches.. good luck Dean

hi all sorry about the bumps but like i said i needed help as they are 2 different tree's
the first one is 11 years old and the second is 6 years old i really dont want to cut
the 11 year old one straight away because i dont know what will happen to it so i thought
if someone can give me some style advice for the 2nd tree i can practice with that and then i will know
how the 1st tree will act
dean
PS i might try to bare trunk it to see how it goes or just remove the branches about a 2inch from top of trunk
