Hi All,

Posted this tree a while ago in a lengthy post about unhealthy tridents with leaf burn, infestations and mystery illnesses. Mine was one of the Mystery illnesses and its fate was looking rather dubious. The first two photo's were from Spring 2009, when I think the tree may have gone into shock after some major root work was done. From that point i have left it alone and its starting to look a lot better. I think this following spring I can try and reduce the pot depth, but I don't want to rush its it after its last reaction to pruning. Anyway whats your thoughts, Sorry not much of the nebari is visible.

Wow, you really have looked after the after your maple and have been rewarded with a lovely tree.
I would just gradually reduce the pot size each year until you are ready to place in a bonsai pot.

Cheers Fiona, yeh it was looking pretty sick, I chopped bout the same roots of my other trident & had no worries at all so hopefully its not going to be a reoccurring issue with this one

I'm just curious for it to loose its leave & see how the branch structure is beneath.

Great Stuff Ryan, Most of mine recovered well this season too but I still have the odd one with the problem. I understand that once a tree has a fungus it has it for life so keep an eye out for it returning. I would avoid stressing it too much with severe root or branch pruning.

You sure have got a lot of healthy growth on your tree.

Do you use a specific feeding regime?

Nothing to special, I babied it for the 2009 spring kept it in mostly shade while it was recovering. This Spring Summer I just fed it every 3 weeks with weaker strength power feeder and kept it in full sun till about 3pm. It has really flourished in the last 4 months.

I definitely agree Bretts, i am going to take it slow with this one and keep a good eye on it. I'm thinking of taking the approach of no greater than 1/4 of the roots off per late winter re-potting to try & mitigate any stress. I will leave it at that for each season.
