Hi all,

I'm in the market for flowering Bonsai stock (or a developing Bonsai) that I could train into a semi-cascade style. Ideally, I'd like something with a more developed trunk and that you think could do well in a Brisbane climate.

I'm sure you all know the species better than I, but I'm particularly fond of Azalea flowers and anything similar to this.

I have something that may interest you if the offer is right. A work in progress since this style was forced due to die back a few years ago. Flowers are small/medium in size and coloured pink. I'll see if I can find a pic of it in flower.

To be honest I do not want to overstate it's value so feel free to pm me your offer.

Regarding flowering I can tell you that it put on a spectacular display last season with the entire pad covered with very little green leaf showing. looking for the pics as we speak, you'll be impressed.

Let me have a think about it (and do some research); but why don't we throw the question out to our community. To anyone reading this thread, what would a fair offer be for such a specimen?

What about a bougy ? I don't have any for sale, but you can get them at all types of nurseries. They are flowering wonderfully atm and are just about bulletproof. Have to ask you about your name - are you an emo who likes ska music ?

I did consider a bougy and went to the nursery with the intention of getting one, but found them too expensive for stock that wasn't even heading in the direction I was after... At the moment, I'm liking the idea of something a little more developed.

And very astute observation with my alias Tony :-p I'm certainly not 'an emo', as far as emo culture is defined, but have listened to myriad forms of emo music since mid-high school (over 10 years ago). At the time, I was in a few bands and was trying to fuse ska/reggae with emo in one band, and the name was born. Though these days I pronounce it E-moss-ka and use it as my tag for my art work.

Did you go to a bonsai nursery or an ordinary nursery ? Neither would really make a difference - if you want a semi cascade or cascade in a bougy they aren't easy to find. I have a few in training but it is a long process. I do like the idea of a cascading bougy expecially a very nice bract colour like an orange that fades to a dusty pink.

Was very into ska when I was a lad and was lucky enough to see Strange Tenants at Easts one Saturday night many moons ago.

Ok Ken, I've had a look at a few Azaleas now in the history of this website, and the majority that aren't fully styled or many years old, are ranging between $80 - $160.

What are your thoughts of a figure around this range?

Leave it with me for this season I'll do some shapping and let it go to flower and repost.

Went to both actually, and found some stock at the bonsai nursery. But as I wanted to get a head start on something very specific (i.e. semi-cascade), I wasn't prepared to pay to too much for stock I'd have to cut back to nothing and regrow.

Wow, that's cool that you got to see Strange Tenants! Would definitely be a memorable show for us ska-folk :-p
