Hi All,
I have done a Air Layer on a Daphne Plant i have .It is my Mother in laws favourite plant, so i thought i would try to get a Bonsai happening.I know its not the best but it is family.
I placed the A/L at Christmas and two weeks ago i checked. There were several small roots. However it was very wobbly and when i moved it the wood inside snaped .I potted it up straight away.
It is now showing brown spots on the outer leaves,as well as several yellow spots on the top leaves. I have been keeping it in the shade and feeding it seasol. We have had a lot of rain lately,
Any ideas of what is happening or suggestions of what to do ?
Thanks in advance John.

Hi John

Not real sure about Daphne, but sounds like the bare trunk of the air layer may have rotted. Did it 'snap' or just come off like it was soft? Possible it may have a fungal problem so a treatment with fongarid wouldn't go astray. The fact that it has roots is good, and the the new shoots are still looking good so take heart. A true fungal problem would normally affect the new shoots as well. Treat as a precaution, keep up the seasol and try to let it get dry between watering or rain.

Good luck

Tony

Even if the air layer was good, you should have removed the larger leaves before you re-potted it to reduse the tress on the plant. I would remove the larger leaves now anyway.
