Hi all, I have attached some sketchup images I have drawn up of a house we are building. If you look closley, you can see where I plan to put my bonsai stand!! Have I gone too far when I consider my bonsai stand when designing a house??????
Cheers, Matt

I don't think that is necessarily the case. If you intend on them being the permanent site you wish to keep your bonsai, then aspects such as the light levels, and whether they get sun in the morning or in the afternoon could be crucial to your bonsai, especially if you are not willing to erect a shaded structure over the top of it. I would certainly be considering this sort of thing when I purchased/built a house.

Hi Matt, i don't think you've gone too far either, the place where i live is a great example; in summer no prob,

, but coming into and during winter the light levels where my Bonsai grow are dramatically cut,

, due to trees blocking and also the house to some degree blocks and shades my growing area,,,
I think your on the right track,,good luck,

,,Regards Craig

When you are building a house, consider whatever you want to do over the next 20 years. If you want children's playspace, or bonsai, or greenhouse/hothouse or solar panels or shade trees consider them all, and make your plan before the first lot of concrete is dumped.
Much better than trying to move any of the above once they turn out to be inconveniently placed.

which way is north?
I do not know about the stands out the front tho

Any trees on them will go walkabout real quick
the section between the house and the side fence might be real nice spot

. if it faces west, cover with shadecloth, and will be real nice

If it faces south, Bummer.

if it were me i would actually wait before put a permanant bonsai stand down until you have done all work around the house
like greth said it to late to move once cement is down and with your bonsai stand you build it when all landscaping is done
that way you know the correct spot to place it my
cheers dean

hey Matt nice renders, only going by your profile bonsai age of 1, but if you've only got a couple of bonsai now, give it 5 years and that yard'll be full
but seriously sun lighting (esp in winter) is definitely a major consideration in positioning of benches or stands, as well as turf and landscaping, and will be impacted by surrounding buildings etc, if you've got a iPhone the app "sun seeker" can help you plan for the sun's position at any time of the day and year onsite.
good luck
