Melaleuca claret tops

Hi all,
I bought a Melaleuca claret tops a few weeks ago, it has been reacting strange and has been a balancing act to keep alive due to drying out very quickly
. I had a look inside the pot yesterday and is badly potbound, what i'm asking is, is it ok to repot now? ultimately i would like to give a good root prune aswell and sort out those roots. or is it just a slip pot?
I live in the highlands between Canberra and Sydney, warm days and now cool nights ATM, will get quite cool from now on though.
For your consideration
Mick
