hello

does anyone know anywhere around south east quensland/northen nsw where i could collect olives, privet, pines etc.

These are weeds and can be found a long Bruce highway. Celtis, Privets and nut pines are listed as weeds by Ipswich and Brisbane city councils. I haven't seen a lot of pines but celtis and privets are everywhere along side of brisbane roads.
I've been searching for olives but never saw a single one growing wild here in qld.

There are olives growing wild on Saint Helena island. The convicts used to make olive oil and when it was shut down the olives went wild. I'm not sure if it is legal to collect them though. I would like to try get one though. Does anyone know if it is legal or not?

thats a good question, i live in the northern rivers near byron bay on the north coast of nsw, these olives sound promising, i bet there really old. just get out there and have a look. im also interested in finding some.

mate the best way to find what you are after is to go out for a drive and look for specifics. ie. celtis in the cooler months you can notice the butter yellow leaves as they stand out big time.

a lot of the time if you drive around and find the likes of little creeks/waterways you will find a lot of species around it natives and/or exotics. Dayne found a monster privet and I found some nice celtis stock in an area just like that on the sunny coast.

I might be going over tomorrow. Some are over a hundred years old. I'll let you know what I see. I'll probably just get a young one since I'm a total newbie at this, I'll either plant it in the garden for fruit or try a bonsai when it has recovered.
