AZALEA GARDEN DIG UP

Walking the dog in a friend's neighbourhood and spotted an azalea just inside a gate. VERY interesting. Stopped by on Sunday to ask if I could buy it for $20. Mrs had to ask Hubby - come back tomorrow. The dog and I were back Monday morning and I had done my homework by stopping at Flower Power and finding a number of suitable replacments in flowering shrubs similar in size and just under $20. Hubby told her to say no, he wanted something there. So I rattled off the selection, described the flowers, and when I told her they all could be had for $20 she took the money and I got out the shovel. In the fortnight since I had first seen the azalea it even popped up an almost open bud so it could be identified.
I know there's years ahead to make this a bonsai but it's not a bad start. Once the wounds heal [mainly from already stubbed branches] and some style is established it will present well. The irony is - I can't keep it... no way can I handle something this heavy... I can barely lift it bare rooted. It's sitting in SeaSol and will be potted up tomorrow. But absolutely no way could I leave this as a garden plant. I can visualise it in several years with a full head of flowers looking solid and eyecatching....
We are all a bit mad.... long live dog walking. Now, it's about that Meleleuca claret tops growing in a garden just a medium dog walk away....... they can only say no.....
I dug it up at Strathfield... hence the name 'Strath'. Can anyone identify the Azalea name from the flower bud???
And now it's time to book an appointment with my osteo.....
