G'day all! Does anyone know where to source some decent Satsuki in Victoria
Im looking at spending between $150- $250 for raw material.
Kinsai; Kokinsai: (Small Kinsai); Komei: (Brilliant Light) A cross between Kozan and Tamaorihime are some varieties available in Aus..

I know there is a satsuki appreciation/discussion group which meets in Melbourne a few times a year.
I believe Bonsai Art Nursery might be the place where they meet.
Perhaps the nursery has some or club members would know where you could source something.

The only advanced Satsuki stock supplier that I know of is Arthur Robinson in WA, perhaps a good excuse to go to the convention?
Let me know if you find any good advanced stock, im very interested...

wait 2 years and i might have something for you. i wired up 100 or so in the ground this season and they are doing well, some nice movement in them that is important with azealea as older growth is just about impossible to bend.

Sounds good noah78 Im after around four Satsuki.. trouble is Im a 'want everything now kind of character', hence why Ive taken up Bonsai as a hobby! I need to develop some patience
I might contact Bonsai Art Nursery and see what he's got down there..

2 years??? When did you take the cuttings and plant them out? Im in for the pick of the crop when they are ready, just say the word and im there!
I have around 250 ozakasuki that'll be going into the ground this year, i'd say give me 5 years and there'll be some good shohin stock.

Hi all,
We sourced this Satsuki azalea from Trevor McColm at Bonsai Art nursery in Melbourne.
This tree was purchased to provide demonstration material for Arthur Robinson to work on when the NBPCA opened in September 2008.

Yeah 2 years does sound a little over enthusiastic! you'd want some pretty fertile soil and near perfect conditions for that kind of accelerated growth.
5 years and Shohin is more on the money.. Ive only ever seen some pretty pathetic examples around in nurseries!

Bonsai Art for sure, last time I was there they had a whole bench full, from beginners to advanced, and they've probably got even more tucked away!
Good luck

ok maybe 2 years is alittle hopefull but cuttings where taken 15 months ago and planted in the ground last september. they were wired and some are around 1/2 inch at present . not bad as this season has been very genious, they are in fertile soil and were been feed every 7 days. all have sacrifice branches on them too. lets make it 4 years then
