These Austrian pines/European Black Pines were whipped up this morning in about 1 hour .I have around 150 various pines that need their first styling from 100mm to 1200mm in height .Thought i would make a start on the smaller one's just to get into the swing of things .I have prepared a ground growing area however i have decided to slip pot the smaller ones into bigger pots so they can be rotated for even growth , i might allow the Wife to grow some vegies in the grow beds instead . Hi Alpineart,

Looking good. I have about 500 of them at the nursery all had their first styling. They are very vigorous growers. The trunks thicken up nicely even in little tubes. I might graft some different pines on some of them later.

Hi Chris , Nigra's are definately under used and underestimated as Bonsai Material . I have been working with these pines for round 15 years .I have only recently noticed these appearing in nurseries over the couple of years , most of which are mis labelled as JBP or Scots pines .When pointing out the issue i get surprising feedback . Back budding , needle reduction and vigorous growth are all the attributes of "The Superior Black pine" .No doubt in the future we will see many of these appearing in collections around the country .I will endevour to pass your way next time i visit the big smoke .Cheers Alpine
