G'day everyone. I planted this Japanese Black Pine 12 months ago after purchasing this tree as raw material for $80. I have researched everything there is to know about JBP and decided to throw everything id ever read about JBP out of the window, and see what would happen.
I crossed my fingers and hoped for the best, this tree was watered once a month and fertilised with fish emulsion three times over the year, I didn't take a before and after, but this is the result after some serious neglect!
I took these photos today after a few hours of needle plucking and needle pruning. Plenty of ramification and workable branches to wire! The tree stands at 75cm tall x 60cm wide.

.I dont think i have the guts to neglect it that much as it is the only one i have .it looks like it is in quuite a large container which may explain why it has thrived on the conditions you have given it .wish mine looked this heathy

I would imagine you mean you planted it into the ground

so it could fend for itself. I seriously doubt it would have survived in a pot and stayed healthy like that without any water on a regular basis.

Sorry for the confusion. I up loaded the photos because I was impressed with the tree that was revealed after 12 months in the ground.
My soil is not crash hot and the position the JBP was in was also not the best to take advantage of rainfall. I guess I wanted to show everyone what can be achieved by simply planting the tree into the ground and almost forgetting about it..
Lots of people have some pretty serious feeding/watering regimes that they go on with, myself included..
