Must be something to do with all the rain we have had, the Central West NSW has alot of Mice around at the moment. I have seen many round my outside area and finally set out a couple of mouse traps this afternoon. Just under a dozen trapped already I will move onto the garden shed tomorrow where I notice my bag of blood and bone has been gnawed at.
Anyone else notice this?

No have not noticed any meeses, but then we aint had any bloody rain for nearly, well a bloody long time.

I'm with Pup on the rain, though our Indian Ringneck Parakeet's cage has been so popular at night i've started taking his seed bowl out til morning. Even saw one of the buggers scooting out of it at 5pm tonight when i moved the cage..

I was in Parkes, middle of NSW, on Tuesday of this week.
The lady in the garden shop (why am I always in garden shops?) said they were having a real mice plague there as well.

A few months ago, at Dubbo, it was crickets!

One of our investment trusts holds 1,800ha of Almond Orchards. Harvest is down 20% due to mice eating/damaging them, so yeah I've experienced them!

I work on a Government site in NSW and we use baits outside and live traps inside and our record for one live trap is 26 mice. This time of year we do mouse patrols and remove all the dead ones. One of the staff picked up 35 inside the plantrooms last week. At the peak we were replacing baits on all the site stations weekly.

This year has been bad for mice in our area but not as bad as 2 years ago.

There's more here than I have seen in 20 years. Enough to eat a block of bait in one night at the moment but still not in the sort of plague numbers I saw years ago in the Mallee in the early 80s and in QLD in 1972. There were thousands running around in the daytime, hundreds under a sheet of roofing iron I picked up. Dogs and cats were so sick of them they just ignored them. Only the muscovy ducks were interested and gobbled down any dead ones we put in the pen. Hope it does not get to that stage this time.

Biggest plauge of mice i ever saw was in the Mudgee Shire, about 25 yrs ago....driving down a section of road going to a friends farm and squashing thousands of them...literally...thank god i didnt have a phobia of them.....

Its not just mice its everything from bugs to Kangaroos!

We had them in 1995 just as big if not bigger. i remember going into the feed shed and the whole floor was alive with them.
last week every day there were 9 and 7 mice in the one trap just in the pantry. In the lounge it was 5 and 4. Since i found all the wholes where they gnawed in the walls & filled them with steel wool, we are getting 3's & 4's. Tonight in the back of the cupboard i found another whole. Washing the floors with peppermint oil in the water can deter them also. Its when you bait them they are a bigger problem because they get under things adn die.It stinks the whole house out. I am just sooooo over them. Ihate mieses to pices. every thing i touch i feel its contaminated, im always washing my hands. The neighbours are all burning their blocks off & the mice are running down the road into our place.( thats how it seems). When i tiped them out over the fence the other day they beat me back to the house. Now i drown them.

In Bathurst there are just enough mice for our not too bright maltese to have caught a couple. There are more mice than usual but no way near plague proportions (perhaps I should add a 'yet' as the blighters may be on the move).

Catching a dozen in one afternoon meant that we often found mice still alive. Once with two mice in one snap trap . The problem was, what to do with them when found still alive. Drowning seemed a feasible option but it was not nice watching the poor buggers drown. One only had it's leg caught and it was hard not to feel sorry for the little bugger.
Just hope the kids don't get any ideas

I remember the pictures of the real mice plague and hope it doesn't get that bad as well. It is bad enough seeing the odd one run across the road at night. Not sure I could handle a sea of them

Get a couple of pet cats, they are cute, low maintenance, and we have not seen 1 mouse on our property in years..

My maltese was going crazy a few weeks ago. Turned out he was hunting mice. He got two of the little fellas. Now no more mice - in the house I knew he was more than a pretty face

just to let you know if you are using the likes of ratsak that if the mice have access to sunflower seed it the ratsak will be deemed useless, the oils in the sunflower seed act as a block to the poisons.
