Hi all

Just got this ficus and it had 2 branches growing sraight up but has a fat little stump.
So out with the cutters and no more branches

Then i got my drill out and proseded to drill holes and insert new branches were i think they will work best i also sealed the new branches were they meet the trunk with cut past to prevent water seeping in and causing any rot

Hopefully they branches will take and it will begin to bud :fc: :fc: :fc:

pics bellow of how it looks now forgot to take a pic of it as a stump but im sure you can see the past and know what im talking about :D

Cheers
Pat

If you just cut them off a tree and then stuck them i holes I doubt they wil actually grow

An approach or Thread graft uses Rooted trees that are then attached to the parent until the cambium joins and they then receive nutrients from teh new tree. Then you can cut off the stump from the graft.

Grafting in new shoots is a different game altogether and involves splitting the parent tree into the bark / cambium, and slipping in a prepared Scion into the split and binding with grafting tape.
