How are your trees coping with the very strong winds we have been having in the last few days? A couple of mine have come a cropper - been blown off the benches and I'm a bit upset about it.
To make matters worst I've been away with work for a couple of days. Any way, here is a photo of a large Ivy that was moved about a metre and of course the pot is now smashed. A bit of repair work needed!!!

I have all my trees on individual stands and learnt long ago to pay attention to the weather forecast, if strong winds are predicted all the trees get put on the ground as happened yesterday when wind speeds reached 100kmphr here

I have a Babbingtonia Virgata that I think is going to turn it's toes up - got dried out by the wind and it looks very sad

was 110km here the other morning. all bonsai ok with my benches and protective screens but the garden took a hammering

The winds were about 100kmh here too. I was going to take this tree to a Peter Adams workshop soon to see if he could find a nice bonsai within. But that new angle doesn't look too bad, get rid of that bottom right hand bit and then shape the top. What do you think?

Wow! What a blast you guys have had. We had predictions of 65 kph but I'm sure we didn't get anything like it in Belconnen or at the Arboretum. I knew we were lucky, as I had several trees blown off benches a few months back. Really set a casuarina back, but it is finally settling back in and recovering.

New angle looks fine. Are you going to name it 'silver lining'?

I was thinking of lucky but silver lining is a much better name - thanks Roger.
As I am a bit short of pots that large and I didn't really want to put it back into a polystyrene box I decided to try and fit most of the broken bits together, wrap the whole pot in electrical tape and see if I can still get it to the workshop. Two rolls of tape so far and there is still a bit to go. When it got too dark to see I called it quits for today, but I will post a photo when I am finished.

It's a great trunk for ivy. Do you mind me asking how you got it? It looks like a very old garden stump. Well worth workshopping.

I got this from a dig, and it was a garden dig (urban yamadori?). I am guessing that it is quite old but not certain how old.

I do like the new angle Watto! I'm a firm believer that things turn out best for people who make the best of the way things turn out.

Sorry about your Ivy...at least no part of the tree was damaged

I know some time ago I said I would post a photo of the pot, well better late than never.
Today I repotted this tree but the new photo was not to the required standard so I will take another photo tomorrow and show you its new look.

Well, there really are those who learn it the hard way. As for me, I did not have some light moments with this. Pots really get destroyed if you get some strong wind with at least 80kph.

So if you learn from the news that the weather would not be gearing toward being nice with your trees, you can just change their position or put them in between some pretty stable piece of wood or bin.

I hate it when the trees displayed at some upper tier levels fall down because of strong winds.
