i got a miniature wisteria not long ago(in the beginning of may) for $10(i'm new to bonsai's)

anyway, i'm not sure if it's alive or if its dead, it hasn't grown at all(atleast, if it has i haven't noticed)

i keep it outside my window, on the window ledge, facing almost directly north(maybe 5% leaning towards the east) in full sun

i water it once every day or two, and put some "bonsai food" in its pot every 2-3 weeks

here are some pictures of it:

picture of the tree:

picture of the buds:

the buds have been there for around a month, they haven't started opening or anything yet(how long will it take?)

anway, i've got afew other bonsais(i've brought afew random ones for like $5 each)

i've got a Irish Strawberry, Trident Maple(lost all but one leaf around 4-5 months ago, it hasn't started growing any new ones), Norway Spruce(this one seems to be growing the best), some light blue ficus benjamina thingo and either a cedar or cyprus(it seems to be burnt)

can anyone tell me anything about my plant(the one i pictured) and if possible, any tips

Wisteria are dormant over winter will see growth in spring. If worried if dead just scrape the bark and if it is green it is still alive :)

:gday: mate, i'm not sure exactly where you live but if it's australia, we are in winter now so the wisteria is dormant. It'll be at least another month or so before it starts to put out new foliage. from what i see in the 2nd pic the wood looks dry in the right stem, maybe some dieback over winter, but too hard to tell from your pic if the whole trunk is alive or not,and it would be a good idea to make sure your tree is getting Sun and air not just water, good luck mate :tu:

it's in full sun as for air, i'm not sure, it's on a windowsill along a wall

as for location, i'm around 20 mins from melbourne

i'll try and get a good photo tomorrow, those pictures were taken in a badly lit room, with a 8 year old webcam(lol)

Hello mb1029,
I have 2 wisteria and live near the ocean on the Sth Coast of NSW,(much milder climate than yours). Mine are still dormant. Patience ,and I am sure when the weather warms up they will SPRING (pun intended) back to life. Good luck

Regards Panda

Hey mb1029, everyone is correct.
But you may want to slow down on the watering and ferts, only water when needed especially during winter. You see dormant plants don't use much water during winter because there are no leaves, so wait till the soil almost dries out before re watering and wait till spring to start using fertilisers. This go's for your maple as well. If you water to much during this time you will end up killing it through rot and you won't know till spring when you think why is my plants not waking up?
Also join a club or two, you have a few bonsai and want to look after them, you will have some fun and learn heaps.
Welcome to Ausbonsai

Mick

Hi there mb,
I'd hazard guess and and say they are still dormant. Give them another month or two and you should see some action!!
I live close to yourself and most of my deciduous trees are looking the same.

Hi, I saw some very well done wisteria at a bonsai exhibition I went to a few weeks ago and I must say that they were very impressive. Hopes this one works out well for you mate and I would like to see how it's going in time...keep up the updates. Looks like your doing well so far.
