These are the few trees that I have that needs to change into bonsai:

The winter comes to an end here in Johannesburg; temperatures appr 3-17/18 degrees. I dont know if it is too early to transplant.

Olive trees:

I plan to plant them in the garden to get some growth- I got the advice to plant them on a tile in the hole.

African Flat-top Acacia tree (Acacia tortilis):
Any advice here- size of the container? Should I start to wire? When do I need to transplant?

Baobab
Any advice here- size of the container? The stem has got an angle- should I try to transplant upright?

Celtis africana (White stinkwood)
Any advice here- size of the container? Any other advice?

Any advice or links to articles will be useful

Hi AV
now and the next few weeks is the time to transpalnt deciduous trees.
Olive I would plant out in the ground to grow on.
Acacia I woud wait till spring and that one looks like mabey a start of a Flat topped "Pierneef" Style so common in South Africa.
Celtis I think shodu wait till spring, then repot, trim excess branching off ( the ones on the inide of bends) and cut back hard.
Baobab dunno much about sorry, but the line of the trunk looks nice if you use the Right hand branch as the apex and remove the left one completely

Thanks!

The size of the pots- what would you recommend?

Is there a need to wire any branches?

And with regards to the baobab- there is quite an angle. Should I try to plant it upright?

Thanks

Albie

Just thought I should show some progress!

The flat to Acacia- I wired it to try to get the top as flat as possible-back in the garden for faster growth!
