Hey yawl, collected this tree last year from Northern NSW i do believe. I thought it was a fig when i got it but i don't think it is anymore. Any one know or wanna have a guess? Cheers.

where was it collected from? close to a good water source I am guessing? and also does it have a red cambium layer?

what I am thinking is possibly a mangrove. otherwise possibly a camphor laurel. need some pics of both sides of the leaves reasonably close. and some more info on collection zone. etc.

Hey Jamie, There is no red cambium. It was near a freshwater creek so i dont think its a mangrove. I cant remember if it was NNSW or SEQLD. The leaves smell fruity when crushed almost like a mango smell or citrus. It doesnt smell like camphor leaves do. Heres a photo of front and back of a leaf. Cheers, Adam.

cool i thought so, i am bout 85% sure its some form of mangrove mate. do a google search on them and see if you can match leaf type on them. try black mangrove.

Mangroves grow in freshwater, I have a red mangrove in freshwater. They do best in freshwater when they are grown from seed grown in freshwater. Doesn't look like a black mangrove, the leaves are too pointy. It isn't red either.

mangrove will grow in fresh water without a prob.

as for my suggestion of black mangrove it was just of the top of my head to point toward the right direction. you will be amazed at how much the leaf shape on mangrove will vary from one location to another so I wouldnt count anything out just yet
