Doing some work in the garden and this needed to go. Is it worth saving for bonsai or best off binning it?

Nah no good man, wrap it in wet newspaper and send it to me, I'll throw it in my green waste bin for you.

Hi there, it takes years for these to get that thickness. I cannot see anything wrong with the trunk. Absolutely keeping it.

it will turn out very nicely in a couple of years. give it a good soak in a seasol or auxin (superthrive) bath for a day or two this will help the tree have less stress!

You would need to chop the big trunk quite low, and then grow on for several years, so that the new stuff blends with the thick trunk.

Alternatively (wicked cackle) you could chop the big trunk off at the base, and make a clump of what grows from the little trunks, growing from a (relatively) monster root plate.

Just my guess from the photos, - whatever you end up doing, it looks to be a good score if you give it time.

I would do what Mr. GavinG has suggested. Keep it growing for a few seasons, then you will have a lot of branches to play it. Cheers.

Where to cut?

bit hard to tell from the pics, but what I usually do is leave around 6-8 inches of wood to where you want a new leader to start, this will allow plenty for die back, and is easy enough to cut of later.

I would cut it at the first branch in the main stem. The knoblly bits above there are not much good
Pot up and then leave on the bench t grow wildly for the next year.

The only reason you would leave it longer, is if there is any nice shapes or lines for a future taller trunk tree. As there looks to be no taper from that first branch up, I would cut there
