Hi all,

Having a hard time getting hold of japanese soil, I contacted a supplier in WA and I have now taken delivery of a pallet of 100 bags. This includes:
25 x small Akadama;
25 x medium Akadama;
25 x small Kanuma; and
25 x medium Kanuma.

I use the small Akadama in a mix with Pumice 33:66 for deciduous trees, medium in the same proportions for conifers.
I use a mix of small and medium Kanuma for my Satsuki and garden Azaleas.

I asume you mean 25 each of small and medium Kanuma?
As we have spoken before Can I please get 2 small and 2 medium Kanuma

PS,.. forgot to add that Kanuma is great for azaleas and out performs anything else I have tried Good Stuff

Sorry I forgot to mention price.

Shipping was a bit more this time around but I can do a price of $28 per bag, a bit less if you want larger quantities.

I'm a bit confused by your mix ratios Scott.

Would 33:66 be the same as 1:2? or are you talking % in which case what makes up the remaining 1%?

Thats two , it wasn't even that late last night when I posted!

I meant 33% (1 part) Akadama, to 66% (2 parts) Pumice. The extra 1% is rounding and a bit of charcoal and granite.

To clear things up:
As my trees are mostly in oversized squat terracotta pots, still in training, I use one scoop of Akadama and two scoops of pumice. Deciduous trees get another part Akadama depending on which species, Japense Maples do, Trident don't etc, small pots do large pots don't, but it is not an exact science. The pumice is graded to the same size as the Akadama that I am using.

I am onto the 2nd or 3rd year of using this mix and maybe 4th or 5th using an purely inorganic mix. I started using this mix after studying with Boon and his students. If he produces the results I saw in his garden using this mix, then it is good enough for me.
