Hi all,

A while back i bought this little Juniper Procumbens, the curve at the top attrcted my attention along with the way the trunk leaves the ground. Taking the Bunjin path, i decided to try and introduce some simple bends/curves in the trunk line,with very simple techniques,, i also started a Shari down the trunk. The shari seen marked with a white line was started at about 10mm wide and then sealed with cut paste along the edges. It has been growing well with no side affects.

My problem- while looking/watching the tree grow, I could see the bend at the top would not be of any use to me in the current direction the tree was heading, and needed a rethink of my design.. If this tree were yours which direction would you go with future stying??? Tree is 300mm high and trunk is 30mm wide/thick,,, All coments and ideas welcome,, Thanks

Hi Craig, I'm not usually a fan of the Literati style where the trunk ascends and then basically becomes a high cascade from it's midpoint, but I will say that the shape of the tree immediately struck me as being a little Naka-esque, so you must be doing something right.

As a suggestion, I wouldn't mind seeing the trunk cross back to the right hand side, creating a loop at the highest point and then seeing the cascading section of trunk going through a few sharp but curved bends a it makes it's descent, perhaps mirroring the acute angles required to make the sudden change of direction to create the loop at the top. I think I have some pics on my home PC that illustrate what am trying describe, I'll have a look this evening. Is there any chance of getting it photographed against a plain black or white background? I could have a play with the design in Photoshop, if you like.

I hope you do not mind but I created a Virt, inspired partly on a tree designed by Pavel Slovak and posted on IBC here http://ibonsaiclub.forumotion.com/t7658 ... block-2006 .

I have bent the lower trunk about 30 deg to the right and developed foliage all the way down the top "slope". As this is a small tree you could have 1 larger sparse foliage mass, or you could train individual branches.

As i mentioned before i started the shari a while back, this time i have enlarged the shari and continued it further up the trunk and down a little closer to the roots. There will most likely be a few tweaks here and there but for now i'll be letting the tree recover. I have taken a rather simple approach and tried to keep the bends/curves soft to reflect the soft curves of the trunk.
