Hi guys,
Do you remember Pat K sending me a "second" straight from the kiln.( It was photographed and posted here)
Well this is it.
There are a couple of cavities around the top of the pot, one of which houses the lower of the trunks on this Fig.
First time I've ever designed a tree for a pot. I had to lean the tree to the right and adjust branches.
History of the tree is that it was the rear branch of a 70 year old Fig, planted as a cutting. Originally having 3 trunks with the left hand side trunk being recently removed.
First season of branch development and the tree has plenty of faults and as a lot of members will undoubtably point out,"nice pot Pat but lousy tree".
Anyway Pat, I think you are on a winner. No longer will cascades have their tail touching the side of the pot.
Mate they're not seconds they're NEW AGE POTS !!

Great composition Dave....but I still think you're taking photos from too low an angle.

Now, any words here that you're having trouble with....hmmm!!

Hi Pat,
I was always under the impression that you photograph and view a tree from eye height???
I know this tree is not a good example, but from any higher would you still be able to view the spacing between branches?

Dave, I may be wrong here, but when have you ever walked into a bonsai display and found all the POTS of the exhibited bonsai at eye level?

With respect Pat, viewing trees at a show is entirely different to photographing them. What Dave has shown is absolutely correct.

I thought the standard to Photograph Bonsai was just above the horizontal.
That would make the perspective of Dave's Pic a little low.

I think the angle is pretty much as close to perfect as you will get. Compare the front lip of the pot to the back. The front is lower, thus the back lip is viable. This means the photo is taken from very slightly above the horizontal. This, to me, is how i like it. Some others may hold different opinions.

You may want to consider using a tripod as well as standing a bit further back and zooming in. The perspective will be quiet different, and really help.

Please note that I am not a good bonsai photographer. This may be a case of "those who cant do, teach/critique" as you put it. But i am an amateur photographer and i understand perspective and lenses well.
