Hi guys,
just another of my minies to share for discussion.
From seedling and trained since 1980 always in a bonsai pot, thus the lack of thickness in trunk.
Bit sparce in foliage and needs cutting back hard. It missed its last repot and has lost a bit of vigour.

a beautiful little tree ,nice to see someone else will work with young material.
I have some 2 year old seedlings that I grew from seed. I will wire this year and grow them out for a few years.
You need to do some judicous branch selection and elimination on this baby, it has a to loose a few branches.

Hi Dave, nice tree. and i am in the same boat with some of my trees this last year. i've had too many in bonsai pots "cos they look good", instead of growing pots, hence thin or little trees, even though some are 10+ years old. so this last 12 months i've stuck heaps in much larger training pots say for 24 months or 36 months or so to get some more thickness into them. maybe longer for some.

how about pashiona next time?? great flavor! far too under rated i think.

Must admit that I purchased the tree in 1998 and except that the tree was wild and unwired, its form was much he same.
I do have a few privets and the Japanese Box with this thin trunk style but nowadays I tend to use fatter material for my minies and cut them short.
If I do use seedling material, it is so I can get some major bending into young material, prior to growing on.
