Hi

I went out to my local Bonsai nursery yesterday afternoon and picked up a couple of trees. I was amazed :) I'm going to attend a beginner class at the nursery in late November.
One of the trees I got is this Crepe Myrtle.

Image

I re-potted it into the bonsai pot you can see in the photo. I'm after some advice on any wiring I should do to the branches (if any) and where I should cut back new growth (if any) Or should I let it develop some more?

I'm after a leaning style bonsai and this being my first real tree I'd like to get it right.

I can provide side and top photo's if need be

Thanks :)

I'm sure you will learn a lot at your class, and I'm glad you are excited.

As to your tree, I would remove all but one of the shoots coming out of the one spot on the lower right side. Just let one branch grow there and don't trim it even if it starts looking silly. You need it to grow long so it thickens up, then prune it back.
I would leave the rest for your class if you are taking this tree along.

Congrats on your purchases.

Cheers,
Rowan
