Crabapple

Such a joy, that tree, I can't help wanting to share. Note that I only prune it after flowering, so that it's not exactly a model bonsai right now. The greenery on the soil is sedum, not weeds.

Wow Lisa ... such abundance of blossoms :tu:

I got my fist (crab?)apple this year and got some flowers viewtopic.php?f=132&t=9524 ;) but nothing like yours :worship:

... any tips in your yearly regime/ferts/soil to get such a nice show?

Cheers, Ryan

Thanks, all, for your kind words.
Ryan, I think that I was just lucky with the species of Crabapple I chose and I don't even remember which cultivar it is.
Apart from that: the tree needs lots of sun and no mollycoddling. I prune it in Spring after flowering ande give it a bit of a haircut at the end of Summer. It gets Osmocote in Spring and once in Summer, and a bloom booster fertiliser in Autumn. Plenty of water during the hot months, as the leaves are fairly big and there is a lot of evaporation. Ordinary soil, i.e. a good potting mix 60% and 40% of grit and sand. That's it. Good luck!

P.S. - That pot you got has a magnificent glaze!!

Thanks for those tips Lisa, I'm hoping that with a bit more TLC I can achieve a much better bloom next year!

Again my thanks for your kind words. Yes Kirky, I love Spring too! Especially now that the Azaleas are starting to flower. And Pup, there's so much in your colection and area that we could be, or are, jealous of, that I don't feel bad about your envy of my Crabbie. :)

I was requested by PM to post a separate pic of the Casuarina that can be seen in the photo shown here.
I did. See viewtopic.php?f=56&t=9614

Wishing everyone happy Spring times,

Lisa
