Hi guys I've been slack with my bonsai's , too many other hobbies .After nagging Alpineart for a rock pot,not a normal pot for the last few months he finally gave in but he wanted to know more about my design . He offered some elm's , i had some sycamore maple's , but i wanted some figs. After twisting his arm he rolled over and caved in, he's an old softie.

Now all i needed was some help so i had to con him again . I chose five figs and began to plant the figs starting at the bottom and working up . Filling the rock with bonsai mix after planting each wired fig, Alpine recons its easier to wire first .

I watered each time i put a fig in and used a paint brush to probe the mix around the roots . After all my figs were in i put some string around to hold them and to keep the roots that are going to grow down the rock in place . Alpineart said to put some moss on to keep the roots cool on the outside . Now it needs a bend to style each tree . I thought i was finished but Alps said to cut all the leaves off , i didnt want to but he said if i wanted to see a tree i need to see the trunk first .I have heaps of photo's to show how i did it and thanks Alpineart for your help and the freebies and for the photos. Thanks sonic976

Hi Sonic976, you've done a great job today , its good to see you back into Bonsai and thankyou for trimming my Maples . Old softy ah , wait till you come back for a chat , i'll give you a task that will change your attitude . I liked your plan for the rock and its good to see you put this together . Hope you learned as much as i did in the tolerance department . Its nice to see a plan come together even if its a long time coming .

By the way , after you finish making a tray for your rock i would like my waterfall pond back . Don't count on entering it in the show as all material must be owned for a minimum of 12 months so you may have to enter some of your other tree's unless you explain the situation reguarding this project to the committee. Last year i could only display my landscape as it was put together only days before the show . Food for thought.

Cheers Alpineart

When you say "rock pot" is that not just a normal rock with some parts chiseled out? Or is it something man-made? I love your work by the way, I can't wait to see it when its flourishing in a year or two :tu:

hi Luke 308 Alpineart made it but never used it and it's hollow like a strawberry pot and filled with soil .Some roots will grow inside and some will grow on the outside. Thanks sonic976
