Hi, me again, as I said I have just moved house, and there are some nice trees I would like to know more about so I can possibly air-layer or take cuttings from.
This one has very papery bark, quite thin leaves, with little seed pods.
Im thinking it may be some sort of melaluca judging by the bark but the leaves looks more like acacia to me but then again I don't know.

Thanks, I hope someone can help

Hi Luke,
Looks like a Leptospermum to me. Could be one of many species or cultivars. As for layering - only one way to find out!
cheers

Seed pods are not right for Melaleuca but look more like Leptospermum sp. Leaves and general shape could also be Agonis sp. Both have many species and lots of cultivars and are common in gardens. Both are also easy to grow as cuttings or layers.

Thanks, if it is Leptospermum, is there a way of determining which species? Also, when do tea trees flower? Im guessing that would be one way of telling? I don' think it would be the agonis from what pics I have seen online, as they appear to have more of a willow type leaf.

the leaf reminds me of a Callistemon rather than that of a tea tree but I could be wrong.

The new growth reminds me of a leptospermum. Can you get a better pic of the pods? Should be easy to layer, lepto's and mel are easy to strike from cuttings so should layer well

Leptospermum petersonii. To confirm, smell the crushed leaves. Should have a strong odour similar to citrus.
