Stumbled in while doing a search, after looking around a bit I thought I'd join in. I'm what you would call a wanna-be bonsai potter since I've only been attempting for about 4 months, but have made plants for cactus and succulents for about 2yrs. Own a kickwheel and a electric kiln, I experiment a lot trying to figure out my "style". Here's a few I've done recently.

I printed out an article on the crawling glazes, another one of Brian Gartside articles. He seems to be an advocate for 50/50 glaze mixes in the crawl and other glazes.

Great pots Ketoi! I really like your crawl glaze and is that a silver metallic finish on the bowl shape? That runny glaze is a good one too.

Thats terra sigillata Penny a fine slip that is polished before firing, so are the other two below it I believe, not sure why the different colour finish though.

I have done terrasig years ago and this pot doesn't have that look.

If you refer to the colour I believe Terra sig comes in various colours depending on the clay used or other colourings such as oxides, stains or ochres.

The color variation of the terra sig depends on pigments added and/or the base clay used, also the temperature of firing effects the outcome. The photos posted are made with earthen clay and doing some testing with stoneware.

The crawl used above is commercial made, playing around with some recipes and results are promising.

Must have misunderstood your words...

The black did come quite nice. The 1st firing was at ^012, fired it again at ^04 and it has the same sheen but the color looks deeper. Tried a stoneware black bit looks more like a blue/black at ^5.

Homemade glaze came out shiny, must have been in a hotter spot within the kiln

Hi Ketoi. Do you have trouble with the porosity of the clay with an EW firing and the bonsai pots being constantly moist? How does the terrasig react to being moist over a long period of time?
