Perhaps it is just the photo, but could someone more knowledgeable please explain the thinking behind the long straight branch growing near the left? It just seems out of character to me. :imo:

Maybe its needed for the final design the owner has for it.

Hey Mick,

Apologies for taking so long to get back to you, I have been giving the question alot of thought. I collected the material about 6yrs ago growing upright on the side of a steep embankment, its roots naturally leant itself to a raft but after 2yrs I could not see a tree within & offered it to my mentor who styled it.

For me it represents clouds wafting on a breeze.

This is how it looks without that cloud. What do you think?

Matt

Edit: Had to retouch virt, somehow missed a branch & flowers! :palm:

Thanks for the reply, don't worry about the time, it is a slow hobby.

Looking at your virt I would say that if you just removed that branch it doesn't look anywhere near as nice and I do like your cloud analogy.

If it was to be changed though I think I would be going a little further than just removing it though. I'd be removing the tip on the far left as well, then changing the angle of the new top slightly to the left and then growing it out more to the right.

Here is a quick virt:

Thanks
Mick

Hey Mick,

Really like the virt you did, the extra bit of tinkering really does improve on my own & the original tree. With the changes also comes a need for a smaller pot to carry it off. I will pass along a copy of it to my mentor as something to think about.
