I've got my eye on 2 possibilities to take to the workshop.
1st choice is a Japanese Black pine. This is quite old but got out of hand when I did not know how to maintain pines. It has taken a few years to push the foliage back closer to the trunk.

It has a very large fused nebari - maybe just a little on the ugly side?, Mature bark and several possibilities for an interesting trunk line.

2nd choice is an Aussie native:

Collected a couple of years ago to make room for a deck extension, it has a powerful trunk and good lines but I suspect it will need quite a bit of carving before it is fit to be called bonsai.
I'm hesitating about this one because Tony will not have had experience with Aussie natives but I think most designs that would suit northern yamadori would also be appropriate for this.
