My 'hotspot' is very iffey so here goes. Hopefully I get this off before I fade away again!!!

The potters I believe are taking part (or, at least haven't said they're not) are:-

Melissa Beowulf
Marg Fenn
Graham Cook
Penny Davis
Marie Hewartson
pk
Janet Selby
Lynette Smith
Val Garth
Matt Allam
Tracey Francis
Luke Parsons
Denise Allen
Ben Ho

There you have it. The display will be set up on Monday 20th and will be open each day until (and including) Sunday 26th. Potters will be demonstrating their skills morning and afternoon each day from the Tuesday. There will be a list promulgated when I know who is available.

I'm very much looking forward to seeing what we can produce and especially the demos.... we can all learn from each other!!

Cheers, Pat

Great news Pat.

You have done a sterling job at getting some fine potters together to showcase at Bonsai Week 2017.

In other news, tickets to "The Art of Bonsai with Tony Tickle" have been flying out the door.
It is shaping up to be a spectacular evening, one that I am sure will be talked about for time to come.

We have increased our capacity for Tony's presentation "From Mountain To Exhibition" due to an unprecedented demand for tickets.
They too are flying out the door, make sure to get yours before they run out (they are FREE).

Cheers
Leigh.

So, who is coming for a Tony Tickle workshop?
What material are you bringing?
Let's see some pics.

I am in for the Saturday workshop,
I purchased an old Juniper that was unwanted at the Ausbonsai Sale day.
It's trunk is quite thick so bending will require splitting and Raffia if that is the way we decide to go.

Excited i am

Thanks Pat, for the update on the growing list of potters participating in the bonsai pot exhibition as part of bonsai week. If anyone would like a sneaky peek at what I might have on display at the exhibition, head to https://www.facebook.com/AdelaideBonsaiPottery/

I've got my eye on 2 possibilities to take to the workshop.

1st choice is a Japanese Black pine. This is quite old but got out of hand when I did not know how to maintain pines. It has taken a few years to push the foliage back closer to the trunk.

It has a very large fused nebari - maybe just a little on the ugly side?, Mature bark and several possibilities for an interesting trunk line.

2nd choice is an Aussie native:
P1160729.JPG
Collected a couple of years ago to make room for a deck extension, it has a powerful trunk and good lines but I suspect it will need quite a bit of carving before it is fit to be called bonsai.
I'm hesitating about this one because Tony will not have had experience with Aussie natives but I think most designs that would suit northern yamadori would also be appropriate for this.

Just so you guys know I will NOT recommend any radical work without first listening to you guys and the experience that you have had with your native material. I have worked raw material in India, Brazil, South Africa and China so am used to being challenged with unfamiliar material.

NOTE: can somebody bring a Dremel along. I also have some 'nibbler' carving tools for sale from the UK for the Dremel.

I will be bringing some pots for sale from European potters... just enough to make up the baggage weight in my case

Leigh - I'm getting very excited. Don't let Tony sell all those pots and "bits" before I get there though!

Tony, I am planning on packing the dremel in case any wood work was required.
FYI, The callistemon pictured earlier responds like most other species to pruning and carving. They seem to do respond far better when repotted in summer while actively growing but otherwise very good to work with. Flowering is late spring/ summer on the tips of previous summer's shoots.
We will only be working on one tree at the workshop. From what you can see in those photos do you have any preference between the 2 I have shown?
