[Joy 2] Ash eWorkshop
I bought this ash in a smal pot 3 years ago. It had already had one chop and I was amazed how quickly it grew and how fast the scar healed. I potted it in this pot last year but I didnt really know how to train it or deal with the compound leaves. I defoliated it when the leaves were too large and wired a few branches.

Hi Grant I repotted this ash today as it is about to shoot. Any thoughts on pruning it would be welcome.

No need or benefit to prune now. Let the tree bud and elongate in spring; pinch back the strong growth and when it has re shot and new growth is as strong as the other areas that weren't trimmed you could then defoliate, prune and wire.

Keep in full sun, water and fertilise well and see how it goes.
How does Ash do generally in your area? You have a very mild climate.

It was exposed to a day of hot dry winds and is now crispy. It might come back.

it should come back OK. Cut off all dead and any remaining un-crisped leaves as well as per normal defoliation.joy wrote:It was exposed to a day of hot dry winds and is now crispy. It might come back.

Re: [Joy 2] Ash eWorkshop
Sorry to hear that, they are a tough tree but I did manage to kill a big one about 20 years ago that really annoyed me; they are my water weeds(along with Banksia integrifolia) at the moment and always make sure they are well watered etc.joy wrote:It is officially deceased.
