Re: [Hugh Grant] juniperus sp.
so much in the past id seen this technique used not to the best of its possibility. Recently though ive opened up to its possibilities and am very excited by what could be achieved with this technique when done well. This tree has been an exploration of how i can achieve a reasonable result.dark1 wrote:Hi Hugh, Why do you not like tanuki? I really like this, you have done a good job with the styling, it has good flow, the shape of the driftwood with the way you have styled the branches shows good harmony. A bit more development and this will be a good tree. Well done
thanks for the kind works im glad you like it
Thankyou very much Kez appreciate the kind feedbackkez wrote:Hi Hugh,

Re: [Hugh Grant] juniperus sp.
slip potted this one without too much root disturbance to this pot, i think the combo work well enough
now the tree can sit nicely at the angle it was designed at

i have some junipers that i'd like to try the tanuki style with. very nice composition Hugh.
Just one question, did you treat the deadwood at all? if so before or after you attached the tree?

plan is to let it the new growth extend out till the end of comp to get the tree to gain more strength and hence foliage density.

yes ive treated the dead wood with lime sulpher but first cleaned and brushed back any grime and loose layers of wood. I did it a few months after it was attached, when i styled the tree. will give another application again at the end of winter.

Re: [Hugh Grant] juniperus sp.
My final submission for this tree.
Future:
The plan is to build thickness in the foliage mass particularly in the apical area. Hoping to refine the dead wood also slightly.

Re: [MacGuyver][ex Hugh Grant] juniperus sp.
I bought this one off Hugh at the market day.
Have been letting it grow out since then and have removed all wire.
Current height is about 26cms it's going to be hard to keep this one under 25cm!
