Bonsai Nurseries / Supplies in Hobart, Tasmania
I couldn't find much info on the forums about bonsai nurseries or places to get supplies in Tasmania, or Hobart in particular, so thought I might start a thread about it.
So far I have discovered two specialist bonsai nurseries:
Island Bonsai
http://www.islandbonsai.com.au/
37 Hall St
Ridgeway
TAS 7054
I haven't visited it yet but plan to soon, and also will be there for the Adult Ed course, as the owner Will Fletcher takes the course.
It's open on the second weekend of every month, and other times by appointment. Specialise in Tasmanian Natives as bonsai.
Bonsai Radcliffe Nursery
125 Risdon Rd
Lutana
TAS 7009
Jordy found this one and we tried to visit today, as they say "Open Weekends", however noone was there so we just peered longingly through the gate at the marvelous looking collection.
If anyone knows of any others, please post details here!

Re: Bonsai Nurseries / Supplies in Hobart, Tasmania
Oh yea! I got credit for something
I personally found that many hardware stores (generally in their nursery section ) around hobart are more than happy, and willing! to help you find what you're looking for even order a particular something for you or look into it...if you make small talk the right way of course!
and truly, Bonsai Radcliffe Nursery, WAS a marvellous collection from what we could see!
see? right there.Japh wrote:Jordy found this one and we tried to visit today

Re: Bonsai Nurseries / Supplies in Hobart, Tasmania
you guys just peered into the best bonsai nursery in south tas
you should persist and give will a call
as i can see you both are embarking on a long and enthusiastic journey, and for this reason i recommend going back to will and signing up for one of his classes.
the more time you spend with people who are passionate about bonsai and know the techniques, the more you will learn.
you're both very welcome here if you need a day trip...

@Aaron: Are you serious? The person who run's Bonsai Radcliffe Nursery is named Will too? Will Fletcher runs Island Bonsai, which I've heard good things about.
@Nereus: I'm hoping I'll get to visit Bonsai Radcliffe Nursery tomorrow, and then Island Bonsai next Monday. Should both be very fun visits!

Re: Bonsai Nurseries / Supplies in Hobart, Tasmania
Today I visited the Newtown Station Nursery to grab some pots for propagating my wisteria and discovered they have a small collection of bonsai, a big collection of bonsai pots, and even a few bonsai tools (I saw some root shears and some bud shears).

Re: Bonsai Nurseries / Supplies in Hobart, Tasmania
Hey Guys,
About 10 years ago I went to a bonsai nursery somewhere in Tassie. I have a feeling it might have been up in the north and was run by a lady. It had an absolutely massive shadehouse and was in quite a green, leafy, foresty kinda place. I cannot remember the name...anyone know this place?

Was that for people who came to this thread looking for stuff outside of Tasmania? Cause that thread just links back to this one for Tassie stuff...kcpoole wrote:see this thread for the main list of Bonsai nurseries Australia wide - viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2244
