Also got to work on this one,

Currently around 12cm from trunk base

Again removed a big chunk of foliage, scrubbed the trunk back and then bent with heavy wire. Jinned a few branches and then wired out and set the basic structure. Haven't bothered cleaning the foliage pads as they are not in need of refinement at this stage and I want to keep as much of the foliage left on the tree as possible but I hope to compact it over time and sharpen the image

Is that white rubber at the bottom of the trunk from a guy wire used to compress the tree or something different? Very cool little tree already!

Yep its protecting the trunk from a wire to bring the bend in tighter
