Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Juniper bought from lacal nursery for 15 bucks. Chucked in the ground for a couple years now back in nursery pot Height is 22cm. Hard to get photo of base as cascading branches in the way. Will rectify that in first style.

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Junipers like the are the most exciting, it's a mystery what's under there until you start cutting. I look forward to the updates!

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
No real work. Just chopped off 3/4 of the foliage. Seen as it was just dug and lost most roots i was in a hurry to get rid of some green to balance the green with the roots.

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Little bit more work done. Will do some more soon. Maybe club meeting on Thursday .
I know something better could have come of it but I'm still a beginner, so many decisions to make. Unfortunately not all were well executed lol. Loving this comp though. Certainly stretching the comfort level great fun. Thanks again site managers . Oh current height 18cm.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Looks like you could have made a nice cascade with this one. Did you explore the option before you snipped the branch?

I don't trust Bonsai, they are a little shady.

Oops too late lol. I don't think i have enough skill for a cascade. From what i see i think they are very hard to make look good. The good ones are Awesome though

Oh well, there's always next time.
You could get started on some Shari up the main trunk where you've removed branches.

Never look back Sammy and Jarad. It is hard to undo what has been done. Much easier and more profitable to look forward with what you have.
For what it is worth, I think it looks great as an upright tree.
Just my opinion: I see you have taken the bark off the upper jins but left it on the lower right branch you've cut. Best to remove any bark on branches destined for jin as soon as possible after cutting them. Bark slips off healthy growing branches relatively easily but after the wood dies the bark sticks on really tight and you'll need to scrape off every shred the hard way.
If you already have that in hand then please ignore my gratuitous advice

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Thanks shibui for the advise and also thoughts on the tree. Ill get onto it tomorrow at club meeting. Wanted to save something for the meeting as all my trees are sitting around not growing. Bloody winter lol. As a result not a lot to work on on club nights. . I have the opposite problem in spring

Re: Sammy (Juniper prostrata)
Did some more work last night. Will let it rest now as its lost 95 percent of foliage and 70 percent of roots. I have cut paste on some of the shari work so it does not dry out the live wood too much. Plan is to increase the shari and jin work if and when it recovers
. Currently 17cm high. Not bad considering it was amost a meter wide a bit over a week ago lol.You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
