I'm not so convinced on the virtual - looks a bit thin, unnatural and too "pom pom" like for mine.Rory wrote:I love the virtual for the serissa.
Beautiful Steven!
It removes the feeling I get of the foliage struggling to to grow back towards the prevailing winds.
....Proof is here that Steven know's what he's doing though!
Love the Jasmine Stephen!

Re: Showing my Shohin
The Serrisa Steve.
Here's how I see this one. Firstly I really like it. How about bringing the trunk in closer to the stone, bending the crown to the right so it sits more vertically and closer to the upper trunk and removing the lower leaves to show the branch structure.
Nice little jasmine too!

Re: Showing my Shohin
Thanks for your thoughts and the virt Mike. I agree that the trunk should be compressed and I'll work on that soon.
Last night I layered the following Celtis as the base was ugly, it was a little tall and I wanted to change the angle. Following are the steps I took:
Regards,
Steven

Re: Showing my Shohin
The Celtis hasn't skipped a beat and is pushing lots of healthy new growth. I'm expecting to be able to remove the base at the end of this year.
Last night I layered the base off Fortunella hindsii (Dwarf Cumquat) as the lower trunk was very straight which did not match the top of the tree.
I took the opportunity to change the angle too so it will be a semi-cascade.
I also trimmed and wired a couple of branches on this Ash that I purchased from Grant Bowie at the last AusBonsai Market.
Both these tree's reinforce the importance of putting movement into the lower section of trunks on all tree's when they are young.
Regards,
Steven

Re: Showing my Shohin
I had a shohin and a mame display at The School of Bonsai 35th annual exhibition on the weekend and following are a couple of the tree's I had displayed. Unfortunately I don't have any pictures of them on display.
FYI, the scissors I use in these pictures are 200mm tall.
Regards,
Steven
